Catch Up Premium
In 2020, the government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up lost time after school closure due to Coronavirus. This is especially important for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds.
Funding allocations
School allocations are calculated on a per pupil basis. Mainstream school will get £80 for each pupil in from reception to year 11 inclusive.
Our allocation is £26880
Our school has gone much further than this. Our plans for catch-up and intervention support have required the school to supplement this one-off grant to a considerable extent as detailed in our Catch-Up Premium Strategy.
Using catch-up funding
Schools should use this funding for specific activities to support their pupils to catch up for lost teaching over the previous months, in line with the curriculum expectations for the next academic year.
At Elloughton Primary School we prioritise identifying gaps in learning and re-establishing good progress in the essentials (phonics and reading, increasing vocabulary, writing and mathematics), identifying opportunities across the curriculum so pupils read widely, and developing their knowledge and vocabulary. The curriculum remains broad, so that the all pupils are taught the full range of subjects over the year, including sciences, humanities, music and the arts, physical education and sport, religious education and relationships and health education.
Where needed, we provide a remote education which is high-quality and safe, and aligns as closely as possible with in-school provision.
Our plans are based on the educational needs of pupils. Curriculum planning is informed by an assessment of pupils’ starting points and aimed at addressing the gaps in their knowledge and skills.
