REW
Religious Education & Worldviews

Religious Education and Worldviews (REW) at Elloughton Primary School
Inspired to learn through Religious Education and worldviews

At Elloughton Primary School, Religious Education and Worldviews (REW) encourages pupils to explore important questions about belief, meaning and identity. Through REW, children develop an understanding of different religions and worldviews and learn how these beliefs influence the lives of individuals and communities.
REW helps pupils develop curiosity, respect and empathy as they learn about the diverse beliefs and traditions found in the world around them. Pupils are encouraged to reflect on their own ideas while developing respect for the beliefs and values of others.

Our REW Curriculum
Religious Education and Worldviews is taught in accordance with the locally agreed syllabus developed by the Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE).
The curriculum reflects the fact that religious traditions in Great Britain are mainly Christian while also exploring other principal religions and worldviews represented in the UK.

Pupils learn about a range of religions and non-religious worldviews including:
Christianity
Islam
Hinduism
Judaism
Sikhism
Buddhism
Humanism

Through their learning, pupils explore key beliefs, traditions, festivals and ways of life associated with these religions and worldviews.

Learning Through Enquiry
REW lessons encourage pupils to ask thoughtful questions and explore ideas through discussion and reflection.
Pupils learn to:
  • understand different beliefs and traditions
  • identify similarities and differences between religions and worldviews
  • explore moral and ethical questions
  • develop empathy and respect for others

These discussions help pupils develop critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of different perspectives
Supporting All Learners
At Elloughton Primary School, REW lessons encourage all pupils to participate and share their ideas respectfully. Teachers support pupils through discussion, questioning and reflection so that all pupils can access and engage with learning regardless of their background or prior knowledge.

Through REW, pupils gain the knowledge and understanding needed to live respectfully in a diverse and multicultural society.

Right to Withdraw

All pupils are entitled to receive Religious Education and Worldviews as part of a broad and balanced curriculum. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of REW lessons if they wish to provide their own religious education. Parents do not need to provide a reason for this decision. However, any alternative provision is the responsibility of the parents.
