Elloughton Primary School Governing Body
Providing strategic leadership, support and challenge
Message from the Co-Chairs of Governors
As Co-Chairs of Governors, we are immensely proud of our school, where children are inspired to learn within a safe, happy, creative and challenging environment.
At Elloughton Primary School, children, staff, parents and governors work closely together to create a thriving educational community.
Strong relationships between home and school are essential to a happy and successful educational journey. We are grateful for the support, cooperation and active involvement of parents and the wider community, who play a vital role in our daily school life.
As a Governing Body, we strive to ensure that every voice is valued and heard and that our school remains an important part of the local community. In our role as governors, we are committed to ensuring strong leadership, effective governance and the best possible outcomes for all pupils. Our priority is to support the continued success, wellbeing and achievement of every child at Elloughton Primary School.
Thank you for visiting our website and please feel free to contact us if you would like to know more about the work of the Governing Body.

The Role of the Governing Body
The Governing Body works closely with the Headteacher and senior leaders to ensure the school provides the best possible education for all pupils.
Governors do not run the day-to-day operation of the school. That responsibility lies with the Headteacher and the leadership team. Instead, governors provide strategic leadership and accountability.
The Governing Body has three core strategic functions:
• Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
• Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
• Overseeing the financial performance of the school and ensuring money is well spent
Governors support the school by monitoring progress, reviewing policies, supporting school improvement and ensuring that pupils are educated in a safe, supportive and effective learning environment.
Our Governors
Elloughton Primary School has a governing body made up of members of the local community, parents, school staff and representatives of the Local Authority. Governors bring a wide range of experience, skills and perspectives which help to support and challenge the school.
The Governing Body currently includes:
• Co-opted Governors
• Parent Governors
• Staff Governors
• A Local Authority Governor
• The Headteacher
• Associate Members (non-voting)
A full list of governors, including their category, committee membership, term of office and register of business interests, can be found in the document below.

Governing Body Meetings and Committees
The full Governing Body meets formally at least three times each year. Additional meetings may be arranged if required.
Much of the detailed work of the Governing Body takes place through committees, which focus on specific areas of the school's work.
The Committees include:
• Leadership and Management
• Pupil Standards and Development
• Pay Review Committee
Other committees may meet when required to deal with matters such as staffing, complaints, pupil discipline or appeals.
Governors also spend time in school to develop their understanding of teaching and learning, school priorities and pupil experiences. This may include attending school events, visiting classrooms and meeting with staff and pupils.
